About
Welcome! I’m Sierra. I live in the Boston area with my family. Every day is a new experiment in sustainable living, creative education, practicing peace and embracing the Wild. The members of my family are profiled on the Cast page.
When I’m not chasing toddlers, baking bread or running errands on my bike, I write. As a writer, I focus primarily on parenting, personal finance, green living and spirituality. I’ve been writing about life as a mom since I first discovered I was pregnant.
The years since then have not been at all boring.
- I got married very nearly on a whim.
- I almost lost my pregnancy, but didn’t.
- My husband and I bought a big house in the suburbs, hated it, and moved back to the city.
- I stayed home with my baby, went back to work full time, quit and eventually hit a stride working part-time from home.
- I’ve had kids in co-op preschool, homeschool, private school and public school.
- I’ve learned to garden, to bake, and to not give a fuck if some old lady at the grocery store calls me a Bad Mom because my baby isn’t wearing shoes.
I’m also a professional writer. My work has been featured on Babble and The Non-Consumer Advocate. I am a staff writer for Get Rich Slowly, Strollerderby, Wise Bread and Parenting Squad and a monthly columnist for Witches & Pagans.
Way back in the day, I was a features reporter for the Eagle-Tribune newspapers. I hold an MFA in writing from Emerson College and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College.

The header photo and the photos on the main pages of this site were taken by the lovely and amazing Molly Tomlinson.
Much of the design and technical mojo came from Zack Grossbart, who writes Get The Eye, a site with simple advice for developing a blog that looks good.
