OMG, you guys! Six weeks. Six weeks since I’ve posted any writing at all. What have I been up to?
Mostly I’ve been subsumed in holiday madness. I know, I know, the holidays are so two weeks ago. But they were huge for me. We had my favorite family stay with us for two weeks, and we celebrated Solstice and Christmas and New Year’s and several other quirky little holiday events, like our locally famous fondue party. It was a whole all-consuming thing for a month or so there.
But who am I kidding? Normally I’d be writing about all that. I didn’t write anything for six weeks because after a year of grappling with writer’s block on and off, I am still totally burned out on blogging. Which is a problem because hello, it’s my day job.
I don’t see myself ever giving this blog up – there’s always a place in my life for a personal soapbox where I get to sound off about family life.
I don’t think I really want to write full-time anymore though. Clearly, since I’m not doing it, in spite of ample opportunity to do so.
So what next? I know I’ve quibbled here about looking for other work over the fall, and I’ve taken on some interesting and rewarding work looking after a baby I adore, which came about due to discussions here about what else I might do for work.
But I’m looking ahead to something else. Something bigger. I want to jump career tracks, I think, do something entirely different. More on that later.
In the meantime, the rest of my life update:
The kids are doing great. Rio is still going to public school, but maybe not for much longer. That roller coaster continues up and down and sideways. She’s been cast as a munchkin in Somerville High School’s upcoming production of the Wizard of Oz (which deserves its own post). Serena suddenly learned to read over break, and is reading everything in sight now.
I think those are the big highlights. More soon! Off to nap away the rest of my bad cold now.
