Be Still My Paper Heart!

Serena has recently learned how to draw a heart. She is using this newfound power to make little paper hearts for everyone she loves. It started with one little heart left on my desk while I was out one day, which was soon joined by two more. She draws them, colors them in meticulously, and then names them for someone and cuts them out with care. Her dad helps her write the names on them.

Since gifting me with three of these magical little creations, she has made them for her entire “family” – a cast which includes many relatives and also some dear friends – and hung them on the bookshelves in the living room. Normally we have a “no taping craft projects to the bookcases” rule, but I am making an exception for this because it is so precious.

Primitive fish have a four-chambered heart, but the chambers are
arranged sequentially so that this primitive heart is quite unlike the
four-chambered hearts of mammals and birds. The first chamber is the sinus venosus, which collects de-oxygenated blood, from the body, through the hepatic and cardinal veins
