This might not be the best photograph I’ve ever taken, but it’s my favorite of the week because it’s such a beautiful glimpse of the brand-new bibliobaby opening her eyes for the first time. She’s at least the second child to see that camera as she blinked her eyes open for the first time. Sorry, kids. At least I didn’t use the flash.
Mom and dad and baby are all reportedly doing fine. Fine enough to post their own updates, actually. As for the basics:
Baby girl, unnamed as of this writing, weighed in at 9 pounds 2 ounces. Her mom is pretty small, and the baby is assuredly not. Mama was a brave, brave soul, and was pretty unnervingly collected about the whole 18-hours-of-intense back labor thing. I’ve had two babies, and still don’t know how anyone does it.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to see my friend be so amazing, and to do the little I could to support her through it. Now I’m going to sleep as much as I can, because it turns out that even being *near* a laboring mom is pretty exhausting.
