I am going to buy a copy of this book.
This is ridiculous, right? I haven’t bought a book – other than Your Money, The Missing Manual, which features an interview with me – in years. I buy nothing new. I put all my dollars into debt repayment. I have an electronic copy of this book already.
But I need a paper copy, and if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you probably do, too.
Courageous Parents, Confident Kids is an anthology of essays about parenting with freedom, love and mutual respect. It’s about slowing down, getting creative, and releasing the stranglehold our modern parenting culture has on kids and their mothers.
Each essay is written by a different “parenting expert”. I’m normally suspicious at best when I see the word “parenting expert”, but a lot of these voices are women whose work I know and trust. Like PunditMom and Amy Tiemann and the brave ladies of MomsRising.
These are my kind of people, and they’re sharing tips on everything from self-care to skill-building. Accepting that we all need to take a deep breath and give our kids – and ourselves – more freedom, these writers look at how we can make that happen.
This is why I need a copy of this book that I can hold in my hands. It’s not a book to read once. It’s a book to keep dogeared next to my bedside for when I need a little inspiration or reassurance. A book to tuck myself in with at night after a long day of parenting, or to loan out to a friend who’s struggling with giving his child the freedom she wants.
If you’re less obsessed with highlighting your favorite passages from the books you want to return to over and over, you can sign up to get a free download of the book. This special offer is available for 48 hours: April 19-21. Sign up today at www.mojomom.com.
For Luddites like me who want to write in their paperbacks, Courageous Parents, Confident Kids is available now through Amazon.
(ps. I have a not at all small stack of books sitting on my desk waiting to be reviewed. This is the first one. I’m going to post as many as I can this week, and then scale back to weekly book reviews. If you have a book you want me to review, send it my way. Next week.)
