My Week in Writing: the links

February 27, 2010

I’m home, and back in the saddle with work. Once again, the most exciting thing in my week was the posts and conversations right here on ChildWild. I love the discussions going on in the comments these days. Keep it up, please! Here’s what I’ve been up to elsewhere. The juiciest and most controversial thing [...]

This Will Help

February 26, 2010

Remember that awful feeling of pressure in your eardrums going up or coming down in a plane as a kid? On our trip home the other day, Rio described it as being “like knives in my ears”. I suddenly had this intense sense memory of that exact feeling. Awful. Maybe my least favorite part of [...]

US Airways: the Final Chapter

February 24, 2010

So we flew home yesterday, and our flights were entirely unremarkable. The gate staff and flight attendants were polite and helpful. Despite numerous phone calls and e-mails, no one was able to sort out our seating issues before we arrived at the airport, but once we were there we had no problem getting excellent seats [...]

Home!

February 23, 2010

Ok, so we don’t actually live in the airport. But in that ‘where the heart’ is way, we just got home and it’s bliss.

Misogyny and the Just World Fallacy: Together Again!

February 23, 2010

This is a guest post from the lovely Sara Amis, a woman possessed of a mind both bright and sharp. I would not want to cross her in a dark alley – or a women’s studies seminar. She was sufficiently motivated by the commenters on my US Airways post to write a lengthy response. I’m [...]

February 21, 2010

Usually this posts on Sundays, but I’m on vacation. Also, there is no usually. Deal. For some reason, my attention this week has been on the epic failure that is modern airline customer service. It’s been a crazy week for the friendly skies. On Spirit Air, an entire family was kicked off a plane because [...]

Link Round-up

February 20, 2010

Clearly it’s time to stop pretending these link round-ups are a weekly event. In my head they happen every Saturday, but here in reality it’s spottier than that. Nevertheless, here’s a good one. I’ve spent the past week riding the whirlwind that my angry rant about US Airways started. I’m more than a little embarrassed [...]

Nerve endings

February 19, 2010

Well, hello there Internet. It’s been an interesting 15 minutes. I hope some of you are enjoying this blog, and will hang around for the bits that are not ranting at big corporations (which is most of it, really). Apparently people really love to hate on airlines. And on traveling moms. I had no idea [...]

US Airways: Polite, Still Not Helpful

February 17, 2010

I had a long talk with a very nice woman from US Airways customer relations today. Cynthia offered me a Very Nice Apology, and empathized with my situation. She’s a mom too, and appreciates how scary and stressful it can be to have someone try to separate you from your kids. She said that having [...]

Road to Nowhere

February 15, 2010

My dad’s ‘neighborhood’ is getting civilized. At the bottom of the rocky hill, still half a mile from the nearest paved road, they’ve put a street sign at the intersection between his private dirt road and this dry streambed.
