Wow. I've been skipping around your blog after following half a dozen link chains, and this... I would probably have been checking a physical reaction, not a verbal. I didn't process the plain english properly at first. "Well, pulling her skirt back down again she probably figured was helpful, and while she ought have asked, I don't get why that was quite so--" and finished rereading. She shoved it up into her CROTCH? And tried to force her knees together?

Please, should something similar ever happen again, DO inform said person that THEY are the one's inappropriately touching your child. Clearly, hopefully, she was unaware of that. You might also add a very loud exclamation demanding that "You get your hand off my child's skirt!"

The only HALFWAY right thing she did was to inform you that her underwear was missing, but she did it wrong. Quietly and pleasantly would have sufficed, in case she'd escaped them when you weren't looking. I've had it happen with kids shoes all the time--I'll see one on and if the other isn't apparent, either ask the adult if they knew or say "Hey there silly, what'd you do with your other shoe?" Sometimes the offending (to the kid!) article is already stowed in a bag, but several times it hadn't been realized yet, and so the search began.

On the flip side, my daughter decided to go to church one morning with her grandparents while we were visiting from out of town. I hurriedly got her dressed and brushed her hair and teeth so they would be on time. During the sermon, my daughter was playing down on the kneeler of the pew, and announced, "grandma, I'm not wearing any underwear!" Everyone around heard, as no one in my family is particularly soft spoken, and they all had a good laugh about it, especially my parents!

Scary. I never imagined facing that woman myself. I might end up telling her, "mind your own business instead of scaring us, I know what to do and you are more scary than the boogeyman you are referring to". Wheew, what a day!

When my youngest was three, we took our kids to a baseball game. As usual, she had gotten herself dressed in a cute sundress. Imagine my husband's surprise when he scooped her up into his arms to facilitate our way through the crowd, and her bare bottom was sticking out. When we questioned her, she said "Mom, you told me I could wear this. You didn't say anything about underpants!" We thought it was hilarious and still do--she loves to hear us tell that story.
Our society has become paranoid.
People need to lighten up and mind their own business, and realize that, yeah, sometimes little kids are going to be naked!
