In spite of my Lyme-induced exhaustion, I went to the midnight showing of the new Harry Potter movie on Tuesday night. Yum. It was the film equivalent of eating an entire hot fudge sundae and not feeling sick afterward.
Things I loved about it:
- Hogwarts! I love the magic of the school brought to life on screen, and at this point the familiarity of seeing the same sets in new ways.
- The kids, almost all grown up. It’s awesome to see them coming into their power, as actors and as characters.
- The villains. I can’t get enough of Bellatrix Lestrange, and Draco finally got some classy moments.
It was an amusing experience to be at the midnight show. We were the oldest couple in the theater, save another couple about our age who were there with their teenage kids. The theater played the Star Wars theme music before the previews started. Why?
Another highlight of the night for me: the previews revealed to me the existence of a Where the Wild Things Are movie. It looked good. Dave Eggers co-wrote the script. You know my wild child and I will be sitting in the theater on opening night for that one.
