Bernadette,

Thanks for your feedback. Amusingly, my next post is about Slow Parenting. I just learned the term from Lisa Belkin's NYT piece, and feel like it resonates deeply with my approach to parenting and living.

This whole shifting of desire was what spurred us on to created the Future Craft Collective. We wanted children to understand the thrill of handmade and creativity vs. mindless consumption.

It's a hard line to walk with children because I don't want them to feel "scarcity" so I really try to watch my language around choices we're making. We keep appreciations flowing (or at least we try to) to cultivate a feeling of abundance for all we have and do and are.

In my other work, www.slowfamilyliving.com we really try to give families the tools to help them understand that they are enough for their children. That things in no way can duplicate or replace the connection they so strongly desire.

Thanks for such a thoughtful post.

"I’ve started turning down a lot of stuff that’s offered to me as freebies, because I realize that my space and time are resources too, and I don’t want them cluttered with junk we don’t use."

BRAVO! I wish all my organizing clients could get that one.
