nursing problems I never thought we’d have…

Last night Serena and I were fast asleep when she started to fuss and wiggle a bit. Neither of us was fully awakened, she was just beginning to make little fuss noises and I surfaced just enough to pull her close and offer her a nipple.

But she just refused to latch on. I tried several times and then groped blindly in the dark for the binky and tried to stick that in her mouth. Again, she refused to latch and started getting more and more upset. I felt around for her mouth, to make sure I was getting the binky in the right spot – yep, moist hole in baby, that’s where the binky goes.

Waking up fully now that she’s really screaming, I realized that I had been trying to nurse her ear, which was now full of milk and hence felt sort of like her mouth. She was not impressed to have a pacifier stuck in it.
