“R” for Rio

“I see R for Rio!” Rio shouts excitedly from the living room, where she has settled herself in my rocker with her alphabet book. “Look! R for Rio!”

I look. She’s pointing at the R. This isn’t surprising, since sometime in the past week she suddenly clicked onto being able to identify about half the alphabet by sight. It still gives me the shaking happies every time she calls out a letter; which she does every time she sees one. On the computer screen, on food packages, on the side of buildings, it’s all, “Mama! Mama! I see ‘D’ for Dada! I see ‘I’ for Ian! I see ‘F’ for Fire Truck!”

I see everything through blurry tears of happiness. She sees letters!
