the scene: the welcome mat at my backdoor.
cats: Meow! Meow! Meow! (roughly translated as, “can’t you see there’s a door there? I could be on the other side of it! Why haven’t you opened it yet?!”)
me: you don’t want to go out there. it’s cold and raining.
cats: Meow! Meow! Meow!
me: OK. (opening door)
cats: dash quickly outside, get about ten feet from the house and suddenly stop, ankle deep in puddles, then dash just as quickly back in.
me: told you so.
cats pretend to have found something better to do. minutes later, they gather on the welcome mat at the front door.
cats: Meow! Meow! Meow!
me: it’s raining on that side of the house, too, y’know.
cats: Meow! (roughly translated as, “yeah, right. we can tell this is a different door! just how dumb do you think we are!”)
